Lung Screening

Lung Screening

Lung Screening

From 1 July 2025, the Australian Government’s National Lung Cancer Screening Program (NLCSP) will begin, aiming to improve health outcomes through early detection and treatment.

Who is eligible?

You may qualify for the program if you:

  • Are aged 50–70 years
  • Have no signs or symptoms of lung cancer
  • Have smoked the equivalent of 30 pack-years or more
  • Currently smoke or quit within the past 10 years

Your GP will confirm eligibility and provide a referral for a low dose CT (LDCT) chest scan. If you’re unsure about your smoking history, your GP can help calculate your pack-years.

All eligible patients will have their low dose CT scan bulk billed.

What does the scan involve?

  • A quick, low dose CT scan of the chest
  • Takes about 15 minutes in total, with less than 30 seconds of actual scanning
  • No preparation required
  • Our radiographers will guide you through the process and ensure your comfort
